Gender equality: MCB Group extends maternity leave by four additional weeks

14 Dec 2021

Port-Louis, 14 December, 2021: MCB Group has decided to extend the maternity leave period from 14 to 18 weeks for its employees, as part of its commitment to make gender equality a priority of its sustainable development programme, Success Beyond Numbers. In addition, two more weeks of leave, or 20 weeks, will be granted to employees giving birth to several babies or from their 3rd child.

Extending the breastfeeding period by three months
MCB Group is committed to promoting a work-life balance and the well-being of its employees. With this in mind, the breastfeeding period has been extended by three months, to a total of nine months after the birth of the child, instead of six months, as provided by law. These measures are in line with MCB Group’s decision to double paternity leave since 1 July 2021, by increasing it from five to ten days. The Group firmly believes that these new measures will accelerate the dynamics of gender equality.
Celebrating women through our annual reports
At MCB, we believe that gender equality is a sine qua non condition for the lasting prosperity of any organisation or state. We know that globally, gender equity has been on the back burner for too long. We made the choice this year to shed light on these women who often contribute to the prosperity of our country in the shadows. This year, to illustrate our annual reports, whether of MCB Group, MCB Ltd or our Sustainability Report, we have chosen to highlight women from various backgrounds and professions in order to celebrate their contribution to economic life. This editorial choice, resolutely aimed at celebrating the Mauritian woman, was obvious.
