MCB Tour Championship: The trophy legends play for
An impressive line-up is expected at the 2016 MCB Tour Championship which will be held from 5 to 11 December at the Constance Belle Mare Plage. The biggest stars of the European Senior Tour are set to converge on Mauritius for the tournament which will also conclude the 2016 season.
Paul Broadhurst will end a memorable year by being crowned winner of the John Jacobs Trophy. His previous best in Mauritius was tied tenth in 2015, as Colin Montgomerie won the event with an incredible 15 under par, then claiming the John Jacobs Trophy for the second consecutive year.
Although the 2016 John Jacobs Trophy is no longer up for grabs, the competition promises to be fierce. A total of 48 international players will be participating in this edition of MCB Tour Championship, and 9 of this season’s 11 winners will challenge each other for the €450,000 prize from 9 to 11 December. Contenders to watch this year include Colin Montgomerie, Magnus Persson Atlevi, Jean-François Remésy, David Frost, Stephen Dodd, Paul Eales, Gary Marks, and Tim Thelan.
A revamped green
The MCB Tour Championship was announced last Thursday during the Fastest Hole Challenge, a friendly competition bringing together representatives of the MCB, Constance Belle Mare Plage and the Legend. It was also the occasion to present the freshly renovated golf course.
The Legend is aiming at attracting a larger golf clientèle. With this underlying strategy, it has enhanced five fairways, modernised its irrigation systems and refined the landscape.
Synergy and team spirit
“This championship is very important for us, because it upholds certain values: respect, sharing and integrity. The strength of this event lies in the synergy and team spirit between MCB, Constance Hotels and Resorts and the sponsors. This ensures we attract celebrities of the European Senior Tour. For the caddies, it’s a great opportunity to interact with international players. And, through this tournament, the work done by the gardeners is also recognised” highlighted Raoul Gufflet Deputy Chief Executive Officer of MCB.
